Volunteering

Members of the RUSH Junior Board have the unique privilege of working with medical staff, practitioners, students, and patients through a variety of volunteer opportunities at RUSH University Medical Center and through its many community outreach projects.  Together the young women of the RUSH Junior Board volunteer countless hours each year.

Throughout each school year many of the members have the opportunity to shadow-a-nurse at RUSH University Medical Center and participate in mini medical school. The members also volunteer in the community and within Rush Hospital. They lend support to the Veterans Road Home Program by working at the Memorial Day Soldier Field 10 mile and 10k. They assist at the Back-to-School health fair that provides school physicals, all required vaccinations, fully stocked backpacks and more for school children in low income communities on the southside of Chicago. They assist with Swim Across America which raises funds for cancer research at RUSH University Medical Center. They learn what it means to live in a food desert as they pack boxes with healthy food, screen food recipients and hand out food in the southside community for the One Box Food Pantry program. They help set up and run a holiday shopping event that allows parents with kids in the hospital to provide gifts for their families.
